Important safety information including dosage, side effects, and precautions of Ella.
Indication
・Emergency Contraception
Note: This medicine is used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. It does not protect against HIV infection (AIDS) and other sexually transmitted infections (e.g., syphilis, genital herpes, gonorrhea, chlamydia, genital warts, trichomoniasis, hepatitis B).
Dosage & Administration
・Take one tablet orally as soon as possible after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.
・The tablet should be taken within 120 hours (5 days) of the incident for maximum effectiveness.
・You can take the tablet at any time in your menstrual cycle and at any time of day, with or without food.
・If you have unprotected sex after taking the tablet, it will not prevent pregnancy from this subsequent encounter. Use condoms until your next period.
Side Effects
The following side effects may occur.
・Common Side Effects: Nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, vomiting, headaches, dizziness, mood swings, breast tenderness.
・Other Side Effects: Diarrhea, heartburn, irregular vaginal bleeding, fatigue, changes in libido, skin issues.
・Rare Side Effects: Severe allergic reactions, abnormal vision, significant dizziness or disorientation, genital irritation.
Precautions
・Do not use if you are pregnant or suspect pregnancy, have severe asthma, or severe liver disease.
・Ectopic pregnancy: Women who become pregnant or complain of lower abdominal pain after taking ella should be evaluated for ectopic pregnancy.
・Consult your doctor if you have used or are using medications that might interact with Ella, have a BMI of 35 or higher, are a smoker aged 35 or older, have a history of breast cancer, or have had an allergic reaction to similar medications.
・Pregnancy Test: If your period is late or you experience symptoms such as nausea or abdominal pain after taking the tablet, consider taking a pregnancy test. Consult a healthcare professional if necessary.
・Breastfeeding: Do not breastfeed for one week after taking the tablet. Use a breast pump and discard the milk during this period.
・Future Contraception: You can start or continue with your regular contraceptive method no sooner than 5 days after the intake of ella and should use a reliable barrier method until the next menstrual period.
Approval status in Japan
・Ella is not approved for emergency contraceptives in Japan, but is available through non-insured prescriptions. In other countries, it has been approved.

Availability of approved medicines that have the same active ingredients in Japan
・There are no medicines approved in Japan for emergency contraception that have the same active ingredient as Ella.

・This product has been properly imported and authorized for use under the judgment of doctors and physicians.

・Ella was approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in 2009 and by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2010 for emergency contraception.
